How we research, verify, label, and correct what we publish.
Updated · By the FilamentFinders editorial team
Research-based vs. hands-on
Every article is labeled. Research-basedpages are built from the sources they cite: printer and filament manufacturers’ documentation, technical data sheets, slicer documentation, and independent research where relevant. Hands-on pages describe our own testing and only carry that label when the method is documented on the page: the printer, hotend and nozzle, slicer and version, profile, how the filament was conditioned, the environment, the test geometry, what we observed, and the limits of repeating it. We never imply testing that did not happen.
Materials and settings
Materials are not interchangeable across brands. Two spools labeled PLA+, PETG, nylon blend, or 95A TPU can behave differently, so we name the grade or say that it varies. Temperatures and drying settings are attributed to a named source, and the exact spool’s label always takes priority.
Compatibility
- We record compatibility as verified compatible, verified incompatible, or unknown. Unknown is never presented as compatible.
- Every asserted match records its source and the date we checked it, and applies to a specific model, revision, and configuration.
- We never infer nozzle thread or length, hotend design, or plate fit from a printer’s brand, family name, or nominal bed size.
How products are verified
- Each product record names the exact manufacturer, product, and variant: material, color, diameter, and net filament mass, or the hardware revision.
- We check specifications against the manufacturer’s documentation and confirm the exact Amazon listing (ASIN) through Amazon’s official tools, recording when we checked.
- We leave out products with weak buyer feedback. That screen is a filter, not a verdict, and we don’t reproduce ratings or review counts on the site.
- Anything that can’t be verified stays unpublished.
- We explain who a product suits, who should skip it, and its limitations. We don’t publish rankings or scores we can’t support.
Prices, ratings, and images
We don’t publish prices, discounts, stock claims, star ratings, or review counts. Product photos come from Amazon’s official product data, are shown only next to the exact verified product, and link to it on Amazon. Illustrations elsewhere on the site are AI-generated editorial images; they never depict a specific product we recommend, a test, or an observed print defect.
Safety
We follow manufacturer guidance. We never recommend bypassing thermal protection, exceeding component ratings, improvised heaters, or wiring changes. We don’t describe any filament as free of emissions, or any printed part as food-safe, child-safe, or fit for safety-critical use.
Commercial independence
Commissions never decide what we recommend, and no manufacturer pays for placement. See our affiliate disclosure.
Independent fact-check
Before a page is published, a separate fact-check pass, done independently of the drafting, re-reads every claim against its cited source. Unsupported claims are corrected or removed, and any product or printer data the check refutes is fixed in our catalog and on every published page that repeated it.
Dates
“Published” is when a page first went live. “Updated” changes only when the substance changes, never automatically. Hub and index pages show the date of their most recently updated page.
Corrections
- Pages are re-checked against their sources, because makers revise specs, data sheets, and compatibility lists, and discontinue products.
- When a claim turns out to be wrong or out of date, we correct it on every page that makes it and change the page’s “Updated” date. A discontinued product gets a visible note rather than silently disappearing.
- Product and printer-fit records each store the date they were last checked against the maker.
- Amazon listings are re-checked automatically every time the site rebuilds (twice a day), and a listing that fails the check is flagged for review.
