Upgrades · Keep spools dry
Filament Storage: Start Here
Most filaments absorb moisture from the air over time, and some do so quickly. Sealed storage with desiccant slows that down. It cannot reverse it: wet filament needs drying first. Match storage to the materials you print and the humidity where you live.
Where to go next
What matters most
Sealed and sized right
Airtight containers or bags with desiccant are the core of storage. Check the container fits your spool sizes, including cardboard spools and refills.
Desiccant and regeneration
Desiccants saturate. Follow the desiccant maker's regeneration instructions and temperature limits.
Humidity readings
A hygrometer shows the air inside the container, not the moisture already in the filament, and inexpensive sensors drift.
Check before you buy
- Which of your materials are most moisture-sensitive?
- Do containers fit your spool sizes?
- How will you regenerate or replace desiccant?
- Do you need to print directly from storage?
